Student

Activities to receive an education at a university, college of technology (kotosenmongakko), senior high school (including a course of study in the latter part of secondary educational school (chutokyoikugakko)), senior high school course of school for special needs education (tokubetsushiengakko), vocational school (senshugakko), miscellaneous educationalinstitution (kakushugakko) or an equivalent educational institution in terms of facilities and organization in Japan.
Cultural Activities
(3 months, 6 months 1 year or 3 years.)
Academic or artistic activities that provide no income, or activities engaged in for the purpose of pursuing specific Japanese cultural or artistic studies, or for the purpose of learning and acquiring Japanese culture or arts under theguidance of experts (except for activities the "Student" and "Trainee" sections).
Temporary Visitor
(15, 30, 90 days or a period not exceeding these terms determined by the Minister of Justice for the foreign national concerned.)
Sightseeing, recreation, sports, visiting relatives, inspection tours, participating in lectures or meetings, business contactor other similar activities during a short stay in Japan.

In case of Philippine Nationals;
1. Eligible Applicants (Must meet all of the following conditions)
a. Philippine National holding a Machine-Readable Passport (MRP) meeting ICAO standards or an ordinary IC passport
b. Applicants who intend to engage in activities corresponding to those permitted for “Temporary Visitors”
c. Applicants who wish to apply for a Multiple-entry visa for short-term stay
2. Condition for ISSUANCE (Must meet any of the following conditions)
a. A person who has financial capability to support his/her trip provided he/she has travelled to Japan as temporary visitor within the last three years and has not violated any rules and regulations of Japan nor had problems with their immigration status during their period of stay.
b. A person who has travelled to Japan as temporary visitor within the last three years and has not violated any rules and regulations of Japan nor had problems with their immigration status during their period of stay and has travelled as temporary visitor to G7 countries (excluding Japan) several times within the last three years.
c. A person who has sufficient financial capacity
d. Immediate family members (Spouse/Child) of the person mentioned in (3) (also applicable for Nationals of Vietnam and Indonesia)
3. Type of Visa and Period of Stay
Visa Category: Temporary Visitor
Type: Valid Multiple-Entry Visa
Period of Stay: 15days or 30days
Period of Validity: Maximum of 5 years

4. Documents to be submitted

2. A person who has travelled to Japan as temporary visitor within the last three years and has not violated any rules and regulations of Japan nor had problems with their immigration status during their period of stay and has travelled as temporary visitor to G7 countries (excluding Japan) several times within the last three years.
a. Visa Application Form (with Photo)
b. Machine-Readable Passport (MRP) meeting (ICAO) standard or ordinary IC passport
c. Proof of previous travel to Japan (existing or old passport with Japan visa, landing permit and entry stamps)
d. Proof of several travels to G7 countries (except Japan) within the last three years (existing or old passport with temporary visitor’s visa and entry stamps)
e. Employment Certificate of applicant
f. Letter of explanation for requesting Multiple-entry visa
g. In case of applications filed at the Embassy or Consulate-General of Japan outside the Philippines, documents to prove that an applicant is legally residing or working in that country, and that he/she has long-term residency status.
3. A person who has enough financial capacity

Trainee

Activities to acquire skills at a public or a private organization in Japan (except for the activities "Technical Intern Training", the "Student" section ).
Designated Activities
(a period not exceeding 5 year determined by the Minister of Justice for the foreign national concerned , 3 months, 6 months, 1 year, 3 years or 5 years.)
Activities which are specifically designated by the Minister of Justice for foreign nationals as activities that falls under any of the following a. to d.
a. Activities conducted based on a contract with a public or private organization in Japan (an organization specifically designated by the Minister of Justice engaged in business activities that meet the requirements, provided for by Ordinance of the Ministry of Justice, of contributing to the efficient promotion of research or the development of industries related to specific fields requiring sophisticated expertise) for research, guidance of research, or education in specific fields at the facilities of the organization (in the case of education, only that which is provided at a university, an educational institution equivalent to a university, or a college of technology (kotosenmongakko)) or in addition, activities related to personally managing a business related to research, guidance of research or education in such specific fields.
b. Activities conducted based on a contract with a public or private organization in Japan (an organization specifically designated by the Minister of Justice engaged in business activities that meet the requirements, provided for by Ordinance of the Ministry of Justice, of contributing to the development of industries related to information processing (information processing as prescribed in Article 2, paragraph (1) of the Act on Promotion of Information Processing (Act No. 90 of 1970);the same shall apply hereinafter)) engaged in providing information-processing-related services which require technology and/or knowledge pertinent to natural or human science fields at an office of such organization (an office of the otherorganization in cases where the public or private organization in Japan dispatches the foreign national to another organization as a temporary worker as prescribed in Article 2, item (ii) of the Act for Securing the Proper Operation of Worker Dispatching Undertakings and Improved Working Conditions for Dispatched Workers (Act No. 88 of 1985)).
c. Daily activities on the part of the spouse or unmarried minor who is supported by the foreign national engaged in the activities listed in a. or b.
d. Activities other than those listed in a. to c.
